We won big tonight
Leading up to election night we talked to more than 20,000 pro-immigrant voters in Davidson County, including knocking on more than 8,500 doors. Even though TIRRC Votes was founded just last year, we ran one of the biggest Get-Out-The-Vote operations in the election.
Together, we made huge progress towards electing a historically progressive, pro-immigrant Metro Council. Twenty of the twenty one candidates that we endorsed won their race or advanced to the run-off.
Nashville voters showed that we want leaders who will make Nashville a truly welcoming city. We’re on our way to electing a pro-immigrant majority to the Nashville Metro Council that can pass bold policies to protect and invest in immigrant families
That’s why we need to talk to thousands of voters and make sure pro-immigrant voters go to the polls for the run-off election on September 12.
Leading up to election night, our canvassing team was made up of more than 60 young people from more than 20 countries. We’re winning elections and we’re building the next generation of political leadership, ensuring that immigrants and refugees have a seat at the table.
Starting tomorrow, we need to reach out to voters and make sure they’re ready to go to the polls again on September 12 to help our candidates like Fabian Bedne, Zulfat Suara, and Sandra Sepulveda, get across the finish line.
It’s clear that Nashville’s immigrant community and allies will play a powerful role in shaping the future of our city. On September 12, we can elect champions to the council who will advance policies to protect our communities and to better reflect our values.
