It's Time for a Change
This month the Tennessee state legislature adjourned for the third time this year. And instead of working to make sure our families have the support we need to overcome the pandemic, they passed a slew of harmful bills that do nothing to strengthen our communities.
Here is a snapshot of some of the measures the legislature passed this year:
✅ Protected corporations from Covid-19 liability
✅ Made it harder for Tennesseans to register to vote
What did we need from them? Real solutions to make sure Tennessee families, regardless of immigration status, have free treatment and care for COVID-19, financial relief to put food on the table, and workplace protections for workers to make sure they could make ends meet without putting themselves at risk. We needed the legislature to listen and heed the calls for racial justice from Black communities instead of pushing extreme agendas that harm all of us.
Tennesseans deserve better. Our elected officials must fight for all of our interests, not just the interests of themselves and wealthy corporations. And here's our chance: Every seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives and half of the seats in the Tennessee Senate are up for election this November.
We're launching a massive voter mobilization plan to make sure immigrant voters and their progressive allies know exactly what's at stake in this election. We will be calling and texting thousands of voters across the state to make sure they cast their vote for champions up and down the ballot.
